Man arrested over murder of Hamad Assaad, NSW

A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a man in Sydney's south-west last year, NSW Police say.

Just after 9.20am on Tuesday 25 October 2016, emergency services were called to Sturt Avenue, Georges Hall, following reports of shots fired.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and located 29-year-old Hamad Assaad with multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite the best efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, Mr Assaad died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad established Strike Force Pippa to investigate Mr Assaad’s death.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives, assisted by Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, executed a search warrant at a home at Greenacre, just after 6am tomorrow.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he is expected to be charged with murder and participate in a criminal group.

Further information will be available when it comes to hand.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Pippa investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
