Man arrested over northern suburbs pursuit, SA

A man has been arrested following a pursuit with a stolen car in the northern suburbs last night, according to SA Police.

Police spotted a white Daewoo sedan on Yattalunga Road at Humbug Scrub just after 7pm (21 October) which appeared to be broken down.

As the patrol approached, the car took off at speed and was pursued for a brief time before being terminated for safety reasons. Checks conducted on the car’s registration revealed that it was stolen from the Parabanks Shopping Centre on 17 October.

The stolen car was spotted about ten minutes later on Black Top Road at One Tree Hill and pursued again by police.

Patrols set up cordons around the area and the stolen car had its tyres spiked on Yorktown Road at Craigmore. The car however continued driving on its rims through the back streets of Elizabeth Downs and into Elizabeth North.

The stolen Daewoo stopped after it collided with a patrol car at the corner of Birdbush Street and Tisbury Street, Elizabeth North causing minor damage.

There were no reported injuries.

A 29-year-old man from Davoren Park was charged with engaging in a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving disqualified. The man did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

A woman who was a passenger in the car was spoken to by police but not charged.
