Man arrested over police officer assaults, SA

A man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted two police officers at Somerton Park today, according to SA Police.

Police received several calls from the public regarding a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman at Somerton Park about 4.30pm on Monday 18 September.

An attending patrol located the couple in a car in Fairfield Avenue, and when an officer approached the man, he allegedly punched him in the face before running off.

The officer sustained a suspected broken jaw and nose and was taken to the Wakefield Hospital for treatment.

The suspect jumped fences and across roofs of several houses before being apprehended by police on King George Avenue. The man allegedly assaulted a second officer during the arrest causing minor injuries.

Police will also allege that he damaged a window at a licensed premises at Warradale prior to being called to the domestic dispute.

A 21-year-old man from Marion was charged with aggravated assault to cause harm, aggravated assault, resist arrest and property damage. He is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police would like to hear from any resident living in the area bounded by Whyte Avenue, Fairfield Avenue, College Road, Eton Road and King George Avenue, who may have found any clothing not belonging to them at their property and ask them to call police on 131 444.
