Man arrested over sexual assault following pursuit in Bondi

A man wanted over an alleged sexual assault in Sydney’s CBD last week has been arrested following a pursuit in Bondi today, NSW Police say.

About 6am on Sunday 19 June 2016, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed by a man in a motel room on Park Street.

The man was allegedly armed with a firearm during the assault.

Police were alerted and officers from Sydney City Local Area Command have been conducting extensive inquiries to locate him.

Following these inquiries, officers attempted to stop a silver Ford sedan on Bondi Road at Bondi just after 11.30am today.

A pursuit was initiated when the driver allegedly failed to stop.

A short time later, the Ford travelled through a park before crashing into a parked vehicle on Old South Head Road at Bondi.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station before being transported to St Vincent’s Hospital under police guard.

Inquiries are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
