Man assaulted; bicycle stolen at Albury

An investigation is underway after a man was injured in an aggravated robbery in the state's south overnight.

Police have been told about 1am (Thursday 7 January 2021), a 50-year-old man was riding his bicycle in Noreuil Park, Albury, when he was approached by an unknown man.

The unknown man pulled him off his bicycle and punched him in the head and body multiple times, before riding away on it.

The man walked to a service station nearby on Wodonga Place, where emergency services were contacted.

He was treated at the scene for lacerations and swelling to his head, face and hands, before being taken to Albury Base Hospital.

Officers from Murray River Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The unknown man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of thin build, wearing a dark hooded jumper and dark pants.

The mountain bike is described as being dark blue in colour with fluorescent yellow branding.
