Man assaulted near Wollongong, NSW

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted attempting to stop a domestic incident at Wollongong this week, NSW Police say.

Just after 9pm on Wednesday (25 October 2016), emergency services were called to Bridge Street, Coniston following reports of an assault.

Police have been told a 65-year-old man was walking along Bridge Street, when he observed a man allegedly assaulting a woman.

The 61-year-old man attempted to intervene; however, he was allegedly assaulted by the other man, who fled in a vehicle.

The man was uninjured and reported the incident to police later that evening.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command have commenced an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Wollongong Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
