A man has been charged after attempting to dispose of cash and suspicious documents while running from police in Sydney's Inner West last night.
As part of ongoing proactive operations, officers from the Raptor Squad were conducting patrols in Sydney's west when they noticed three men on the roadway on Sevier Avenue, Rhodes, just before 9pm (Thursday 9 September 2021), who were near a Mercedes A250.
Police stopped and spoke with the men, who initially claimed to be asking for directions before stating they work together.
When officers advised the men they and the vehicle would be searched, it's alleged that one of the men walked over to the car, leaned in the window and grabbed a small package, before running away.
Police gave chase on foot and observed the man throw the package away before he was arrested a short distance away.
The package was retrieved from an apartment balcony and was found to contain $15,000 and documentation.
During a subsequent search of the 30-year-old Oakhurst man and his bag, police located a further $2930 cash and a steroid tablet.
He was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with not comply with direction given by police officer, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance, pedestrian not travel on footpath/nature strip, pedestrian stay on road longer than necessary to cross, disobey no parking sign, not comply P2 licence condition not display P plates, and not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19.
The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 10 September 2021).
Two other men, aged 20 and 24, were advised they would each be issued a $1000 PIN for failing to comply with a noticed direction re s7/8/9-COVID-19.
