Man bitten while surfing - Windang

A man has been taken to hospital after a suspected shark bite south of Wollongong.

About 8am today (Friday 17 January 2020), a 59-year-old man was surfing at Windang Beach when he was bitten on the foot.

The surfer paddled himself to shore, where he was assisted by an off-duty life guard and other people on the beach.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended with NSW Ambulance Paramedics, who treated the man for lacerations to his foot.

The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and are currently making inquiries with NSW Department of Primary Industries.

No shark was sighted in the area and the beach remains open.
