Man blackmailed after using dating app

Police are investigating after a man was allegedly blackmailed over his use of a popular dating app, Victoria Police say.

It is believed the 29-year-old male victim was messaging various people via the app when a male threatened to disclose the victim’s activities to another person unless he received a substantial amount of money.

The victim arranged to meet the man on Friday 2 March at about 4.10pm at the Southern Cross railway station.

At this location he was met by a man who he gave cash to.

The man was described as 181cm in height, slim build, in his late 20’s with blonde/brown messy hair and ink-purple painted fingernails.

He was described as was wearing brown cargo pants, a dark coloured hooded top and carrying a brown satchel bag across his body.

Transit Robbery Taskforce detectives have released images and CCTV of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
