Man caught speeding in rain in Faraday

Heavy Vehicle Unit police have nabbed an 84-year-old man speeding while overtaking a caravan on the Calder Freeway in Faraday this morning as part of Operation Argus.

Police clocked the Range Rover Discovery travelling at 145km/h in a 110km/h in the rain along a stretch of the freeway about 10.55am.

The officers intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the driver from Mildura.

He has received a $537 fine for speeding and his licence has been suspended.

The intercept was part of Operation Argus, which focuses on impaired driving, motorcycles, excessive speed, driver distraction and not wearing seatbelts.

The state-wide operation will run for four days from 12.01am on Thursday 5 September to 11.59pm on Sunday 8 September.
