Man charged 16 years after attempted armed robbery at Parramatta

Police have charged a man 16 years after a store in Parramatta was the scene of an alleged violent attempted armed robbery.

On Monday 10 November 2003, a man entered a store at a shopping centre in Parramatta allegedly armed with a replica pistol, threatening the store manager and demanding cash.

Police were told a violent struggle ensued during which the store manager managed to disarm the man.

The pair continued to fight until the manager tried to flee before he was allegedly struck on the head by another man.

The two men fled and the manager contacted police.

A long-running investigation which included advanced forensic and DNA technology led investigators to identify and arrest a 44-year-old man.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to rob.

He was bail refused to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 9 October 2019).
