Man Charged After Annandale Break-In, Assault

A man has been charged with assault and stealing offences following an alleged break and enter in Sydney's Inner West.

About 11.00pm on Sunday 15 March 2026, police were called to a hotel on Johnston Street, Annandale, following reports a man allegedly broke into the premises before assaulting a 41-year-old man.

The man was detained by hotel staff prior to police arrival.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command arrived shortly after and arrested the 31-year-old man.

He was subsequently searched, with police locating a number of vapes and cigarettes, alleged to have been stolen from a tobacconist on Norton Street, Leichhardt, a short time before the incident at the hotel.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station, before being taken to hospital under police guard.

Following his release from hospital yesterday (Monday 16 March 2026), the man was returned to Newtown Police Station and charged with 12 offences relating to stealing, break and enter, and assault.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Tuesday 17 March 2026).
