Man charged after assault of visually impaired man, NSW

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of a visually impaired man at Gosford, NSW Police say.

About 10pm today, a 62-year-old man, who is visually impaired, was waiting at a bus stop on Mann Street, Gosford, when he was approached by two males, one aged 19-year-old and another aged 17.

Shortly after, witnesses allegedly observed the 62-year-old on the ground. The 19-year-old man was then allegedly seen to kick him in the torso before leaving the scene.

Police from Brisbane Water LAC attended and detained the two teenage males nearby.

They were taken to Gosford Police Station where the 19-year-old was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court tomorrow.

The 17-year-old was later released without charge.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Gosford Hospital where he was treated for a laceration above his right eye, a laceration on his right elbow and finger, and pain to the left side of his jaw.
