Man charged after assaulting a taxi driver in Pyrmont

Police have arrested a man after an alleged assault in Pyrmont, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont, about 4.30am today, following reports of an assault.

Police have been told that upon exiting a taxi at a licensed premise, a man allegedly stole an EFTPOS machine and a mobile phone before assaulting a taxi driver.

The driver of the taxi, a 38-year-old man received an injury to the nose during the incident.

Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command attended and launched an investigation into the matter.

As a result of inquiries, about 5.10am, officers arrested a 30-year-old man at the intersection of William and Bourke Street, Darlinghurst.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and larceny.

The man was given conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 26 March 2017.
