Man charged after assaulting bus passenger in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs

A man will appear in court today after allegedly verbally and physically assaulting a bus passenger in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs last month, NSW Police say.

At 2.30pm on Wednesday 11 January 2017, a 27-year-old man caught a bus at Bondi Beach towards Bondi Junction.

During the trip, it will be alleged an unknown male and female sat next to the man before the male asked the man for a cigarette.

When the man told the unknown male he didn’t have any, it is alleged the male verbally abused the man, before attempting to take his mobile phone and punching him.

The pair left the bus empty handed and officers from Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command were contacted.

Following inquiries, about 7.50pm today, a 38-year-old man attended Waverley Police Station where he was arrested.

The man was charged with assault with intent to rob and refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow.
