Man charged after assaulting police at Central Railway Station, NSW

A man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting police when he was stopped for evading a fare at Central Railway Station yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 5.10pm yesterday, officers from the Police Transport Command were patrolling Central Railway Station when they observed a man allegedly jump the ticket barriers.

As officers approached the man he allegedly punched a male officer in the face.

Further police arrived and the man was arrested after allegedly violently resisting arrest.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with assault police causing actual bodily harm, assault police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and resist arrest.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court today.
