Man charged after biting another man's ear in Sydney

A man has been charged after allegedly biting part of another man’s ear off in Sydney’s CBD yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just before 11pm (Wednesday 12 December 2018), a 25-year-old man was waiting for a bus on Clarence Street, Sydney, when he was allegedly assaulted from behind by a man who was known to him, before being bitten on the ear.

A significant portion of the man’s ear became detached.

A short altercation followed, before the man stole the 25-year-old’s wallet and fled the scene on foot.

The man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command stopped a vehicle on Adams Street, Frenches Forrest, about 2am today (Thursday 13 December 2018).

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.

He was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent and larceny.

The man was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court today.
