Man charged after fatal crash, NSW

A man has been charged after a fatal crash at Lucas Heights last week.

Shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday 5 January 2019, emergency services were called to New Illawarra Road, near Heathcote Road, after reports three vehicles had collided.

The male driver of red Subaru Liberty, a 63-year-old Heathcote man, died at the scene.

The male driver of a silver Toyota Hilux, a 26-year-old Miranda man, suffered abdominal and spinal injuries. He was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He has since been discharged.

His passenger, a 21-year-old Cronulla man, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for abdominal injuries. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command, with the assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, about 11am yesterday (Saturday 12 January 2019), the 26-year-old Miranda man was arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, drive while disqualified, illegal use of conyeyance and breach of previous bail conditions.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 13 January 2019).

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
