Man Charged After Firearm, Ammo Seized in Manilla

A man has been charged after a firearm and rounds of ammunition were allegedly found by police following a vehicle search in the state's west.

About 6.20pm yesterday (Friday 7 November 2025), officers attached to Oxley Police District located a vehicle parked on Kanangra Street, Manilla and spoke to the driver.

Checks were conducted and a subsequent vehicle search was carried out with police allegedly locating and seizing a shortened rifle, amounts of ammunition, methylamphetamine and goods believed to be stolen.

The driver – a 20-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with:

- Shorten firearm (not pistol) unless authorised by permit

- Possess prohibited drug

- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)

- Possess loaded firearm public place

- Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm

- Possess unregistered unauthorised prohibited firearm in public place

- Two count of possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 8 November 2025).
