A man has been charged after a firearm was allegedly found by police following a vehicle search in Sydney's south-west this afternoon.
About 2.50pm (Friday 30 May 2025), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Commands' Proactive Crime Team stopped a Victorian registered BMW sedan in Cartwright Avenue, Cartwright in relation to a random breath test.
Police conducted checks on the both the driver and his front seat passenger – a 45-year-old man –, which revealed the passenger was wanted on outstanding warrants.
Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle which allegedly located a silver-coloured Magnum 500 revolver under the front passenger seat, containing five spent shell casings.
During the search of the vehicle, officers also allegedly located a 1.5 metre dragon spear and a quantity of white crystalline substance.
The 45-year-old from Queensland was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and the two outstanding warrants for breach of bail offences and using a carriage service to menace/offend.
Inquiries continue into the white crystalline substance.
The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 31 May 2025).
