Man charged after large drug seizure in Balranald

A man will appear in court today after being stopped in a vehicle with more than 20 kilos of Methylamphetamine in Balranald yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 5pm on Monday 25 June 2018, general duties police attached to Barrier Police District were conducting stationary RBT on McCabe Street.

Officers stopped the man’s Holden ute and conducted a search of the vehicle.

Police will allege that during the search they located 15kilos of Methylamphetamine in the rear tray and the driver was arrested.

The 38-year-old South Australian man was conveyed to Balranald Police Station where a further search of the vehicle was conducted.

Further bags of drugs were located inside the vehicle - giving a total of more than 20 kilos.

The drugs have an estimated potential street value of $10.4 million.

The man was later charged with supply large commercial quantity of drugs and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear in Wentworth Local Court today (Tuesday 26 June 2018).

An 8-year-old boy travelling with the man is being cared for by a government agency.

Inquiries into the incident continue both in NSW and South Australia.
