Man charged after low-speed pursuit with tipper truck in Burwood

A man has been charged following a low-speed pursuit with a tipper truck through south-west Sydney yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4pm (Saturday 2 June 2018), police from Burwood Police Area Command noticed a tipper truck hit a light pole at the intersection of Paisley Road and Shaftesbury Road, Burwood.

The officers activated their warning lights, stopped the vehicle and briefly spoke to the driver, before he allegedly drove off.

A pursuit was commenced with officers from Burwood Traffic & Highway Patrol Command later taking over the pursuit.

The vehicle was pursued, at low speed, through various streets in Burwood, Strathfield, Enfield, Campsie and Croydon Park.

As the vehicle travelled along Burwood Road it is alleged it crossed to the incorrect side of the road and hit several parked cars. Police then terminated the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Polair continued to track the tipper truck where it stopped in Harry Street, Lidcombe.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Auburn Hospital where he underwent mandatory testing.

He was then taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), drive while disqualified – 2nd offence, not stop and exchange particulars (x5) and not exchange details with owner of damaged property (x2).

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 3 June 2018).
