Man Charged After Police Assault Near Bathurst

A man has been charged with allegedly assaulting police and traffic offences in the states Central Tablelands yesterday.

About 5.35pm (Wednesday 3 December 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command conducted a vehicle stop of a Toyota Hilux travelling west bound along the Great Western Highway, Walang, approximately 20km east of Bathurst, after it was seen allegedly speeding.

Whilst speaking with the driver – a 43-year-old man – he allegedly assaulted a male senior constable before running from the location into nearby bushland.

With the assistance of additional resources police conducted a searh of the area where the man was last seen; however, they were unable to locate the man.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

About 7.20am today (Thursday 4 December 2025), the man was sighted by police on the Great Westen Highway, Raglan, entering the passenger side of a Ford Ranger utility before driving from the scene

The vehicle was stopped by police on Sydney Road, Kelso.

The 43-year-old and driver aren't known to each other.

It will be alleged that the man walked from the vehicle where he was approached by officers and placed under arrest.

The man allegedly attempted to resist arrest where he was taken into custody and conveyed to Bathurst Police Station.

Inquiries established that the 43-year-old had allegedly supplied false particulars to police and was the holder of a cancelled drivers licence.

He was charged with:

• Driver or rider state false name or home address

• Fail or refuse to comply with requirement of police officer

• Drive while licence cancelled

• Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm

• Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty (three counts)

The Cootamundra man was refused bail and appeared at bail division – court 4, local today (Thursday 4 December 2025) where he was further refused bail to appeart before Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday 10 December 2025.
