A man has been charged with online child exploitation offences after being arrested by detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad, NSW Police say.
The Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) conducts ongoing investigations into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children online under Strike Force Trawler.
In January, strike force officers began engaging online with a man from Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Police will allege in court the man believed he was speaking to the father of an 11-year-old girl and made numerous sexually explicit comments about the child, and made arrangements to meet with the pair.
About 11.30am today, the 33-year-old man was arrested by strike force detectives near Parramatta.
Shortly after, detectives executed a search warrant at a home unit at Dee Why, where they seized computers, electronic storage devices, and mobile phones.
The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with incite to commit aggravated sexual intercourse person aged between 10 and 14, use carriage service to procure persons under 14, and use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child pornography.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today (24 March 2017).
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) investigation into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
Regular covert online investigations are conducted by the Child Exploitation Internet Unit and police in NSW work closely with their law-enforcement colleagues interstate and overseas.
