Man Charged After Redfern Armed Robbery Attempt

A man has been charged following an alleged attempted robbery involving a firearm in Sydney's inner south yesterday.

About 9am (Tuesday 18 November 2025), officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command were patrolling the Redfern area when they observed two men involved in an altercation at the intersection of Morehead and Kettle Streets.

Police will allege as they approached, one of the men ran from the scene, throwing a firearm on the ground in front of officers.

Officers pursued the man on foot and arrested a 23-year-old man on Morehead Street, Redfern.

The man was searched and was allegedly found to be in possession of identity documents which did not belong to him.

Police were told the man allegedly approached and threatened a 69-year-old man with a firearm and demanded his property.

The older man was not injured.

The 23-year-old was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unauthorised firearm and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 7 today (Wednesday 19 November 2025).
