Man charged after Surry Hills assault, NSW

A man will face court tomorrow after a woman was assaulted in Surry Hills this morning, NSW Police say.

About 5am today a woman was walking along Goulburn Street near the intersection of Foy Lane, when a man approached her from behind and assaulted her.

Nearby Australian Federal Police members were able to arrest the man and detain him until NSW Police arrived.

The 21-year-old Surry Hills woman was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks.

The 32-year-old Sydney man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with intentionally choke a person with recklessness.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday 28 May 2017.
