Man charged amid strike force into firearm theft at rural property at Nyngan

A man has been charged following investigations into the theft of firearms from a property in the state's Orana Region.

Strike Force Akoonah was established by officers at Central North Police District to investigate the theft of firearms during an aggravated break, enter and steal offence at a property near Nyngan in August 2019.

Following inquiries, police executed a crime scene warrant at a home on Oxley Street at Nyngan about 5.30pm on Monday (23 September 2019) during which two firearms were seized.

About 7.50am on Tuesday (24 September 2019), investigators arrested a 23-year-old man at a home on Oxley Street at Nyngan in relation to the aggravated break and enter offence and various firearm offences.

He was taken to Nyngan Police Station and charged with aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence, use/ supply stolen firearm and not keep firearm safely.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Nyngan Local Court on Monday 28 October 2019.

Investigations are ongoing.
