Man charged as investigation into recent shootings continue - Operation Talon

A man will appear in court today after being charged over the alleged possession of a prohibited weapon.

Detectives from Auburn and Ryde Police Area Commands are investigating after a number of public place shootings in recent days, which are believed to linked.

As part of proactive policing strategies, Operation Talon, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit and South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order search at a home unit and garage at Berala just after 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 May 2019).

During the search, police located multiple rounds of ammunition and an extendable baton. The items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

A 33-year-man was arrested at the location and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with possess prohibited weapon.

He was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 23 May 2019).

Detectives are continuing inquiries into the shootings, which will be complemented by ongoing proactive policing strategies by Operation Talon.

Operation Talon is a proactive policing strategy to prevent and disrupt public act of violence, including shootings, and target the possession and supply of illicit firearms.
