Man charged following assault in Redfern

A man will appear in court tomorrow following an alleged assault in Redfern last night, NSW Police say.

About 11pm yesterday, a 58-year-old man attended a unit on Morehead Street and allegedly became involved in a physical altercation with a 51-year-old man who was in the premises with a 53-year-old woman.

Police will allege the man used a hammer and a sharp instrument believed to be a knife, causing a minor cut to the younger man’s throat and head.

Officers attached to Redfern Local Area Command were called and located the armed man in the unit.

He was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to St Vincent’s Hospital under police guard.

Following the 58-year-old man’s release, he was taken to Redfern Police Station where he was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent to inflict actual bodily harm and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.

The injured man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
