Man charged following carjacking in Goonellabah

A man has been arrested after it is alleged he assaulted another man before stealing his car at Goonellabah last week, NSW Police say.

About 1.50pm Friday 8 September 2017, a 27-year-old man was driving his car along Skyline Road when he noticed a man hitch-hiking. The driver stopped and picked the man up and travelled to a number of locations in Goonellabah.

The driver stopped near a shopping complex on Rous Road when it its alleged the passenger punched the driver to the face and pushed him out of the car. The man then allegedly drove from the location.

About 9am yesterday (3 September 2017), a 26-year-old man attended Casino Police Station. He was arrested and charged with assaulting with intent to take a motor vehicle. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Lismore Local Court on 9 October 2017.

Police attended the man’s address and located and seized a motor vehicle.
