Man charged following Castlemaine fatal

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal car crash in Castlemaine on 6 January, Victoria Police say.

A 39-year-old Castlemaine man was remanded in custody in a bedside hearing today.

He has been charged with:

-One count of culpable driving

-Two counts of negligent driving causing serious injury

-One count of dangerous driving causing death

-Two counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury

-One count of failing to stop after an accident where there’s a death

-Reckless conduct endangering life

-A number of traffic offences and summary charges.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Forest and Urquhart streets just before 4pm on Saturday after reports a vehicle had hit a pole.

A rear seat passenger died at the scene.

Two other passengers sustained serious injuries.

The man is due to appear in Bendigo Magistrates court on 18 April.
