Man charged following fatal crash in state's central west, NSW

A man has been charged following a two-vehicle fatal crash in the state’s north west yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 7.15am yesterday, a 23-year-old man was driving a black Jeep Patriot north along Mount Hallam Road, Atholwood, (north east of Glen Innes).

At the same time a 59-year-old man was driving a silver Mazda ute south along the same road when the two vehicles collided.

Emergency services were called; however, the older man died at the scene.

The younger man was taken to Texas Hospital in Queensland for mandatory testing.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced inquiries.

About 3.30pm, a 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

The man was granted conditional bail, to appear at Inverell Local Court on 4 May 2017.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
