Man charged following road rage incident near Forster, NSW

A man has been charged following a two-vehicle crash on the weekend, which is alleged to have been sparked by road rage near Forster, NSW Police say.

About 7.15pm on Sunday 2 October 2016, two male drivers aged 29 and 26, of a green Mercedes sedan and a white Toyota Hilux respectively, were allegedly involved in a physical altercation at a service station on Manning River Drive, Taree.

Following the incident, both drivers drove from the scene, and continued to travel in a southerly direction along The Lakes Way, Failford, when they collided.

The Hilux rolled a number of times and came to a stop. Four occupants of the Hilux – the 29-year-old male driver, a 35-year-old man, and two women aged 20 and 24, suffered various injuries and were all airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured and fled the scene.

Officers from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 7pm last night yesterday, a 26-year-old man attended Taree Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with furious driving, menacing driving, and failing to stop and render assistance.

He was refused bail, to appear at Taree Local Court today.

Inquiries continue, and anyone with information is urged to contact local police via Crime Stoppers.
