Man charged following robbery in North Coast

Police have charged a man after an alleged robbery at a shopping centre car park in Banora Point yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 6.30pm today a man was allegedly approaching people in a car park on Fraser Drive asking them for money.

He was declined a number of times before approaching a third person where he became physical, allegedly grabbing a 29-year-old man on the shoulder and demanded his wallet.

The man refused to give his wallet and was then allegedly punched in the face causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

The man allegedly lent over the unconscious man and stole an amount of money from his wallet before leaving the scene.

A number of witnesses allegedly followed the man and alerted police.

He was arrested not far from the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery, demand money with menace, and intimidation.

He was refused bail and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today tomorrow.
