A motorcycle rider will face court over a traffic offence in Sydney's south yesterday.
About 11.40am yesterday (Thursday 12 March 2026), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement on Alfords Point Road, Padstow Heights, when they observed a motorcycle being ridden in a dangerous manner.
The rider – a 19-year-old man – was stopped nearby and subject to a roadside breath test and drug test – both returning negative results.
The man was issued a Court Attendance Notice charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and class A motor vehicles exceed speed greater than 45 km/h.
He is set to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 22 April 2026.
Police will allege in court the man was riding the motorcycle at the alleged speed of 216km/h in a signposted 80km/h zone.
His licence was also suspended.
Inspector Stephen Templeman from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command says motorcycle riders, in particular, need to manage their speed carefully, as speeding on a motorcycle carries a higher risk than crashes involving other vehicles.
"Police regularly conduct speed enforcement across the state to target drivers and riders who exceed speed limits, not only to stop dangerous behaviour but to prevent crashes and save lives."
"Our message is clear. While wearing a helmet and protective gear is essential to motorcycle riders, they must also adhere to the speed limit and need extra caution as they are, in particular, far more vulnerable to serious injuries or even fatality in the event of crash, compared to drivers of car." Inspector Templeman said.
