Man Charged for GBH, Attempted Robbery in Broadbeach

Police have charged a man following investigations into the grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery of a man at Broadbeach Waters on 1 January.

It will be alleged that just before 6am, a 44-year-old Carrara man was at a bus-stop, outside a shopping centre on Hooker Boulevard, when he was approached by a man on a bicycle.

It is further alleged that the man hopped off his bicycle and punched the 44-year-old to the head from behind, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

The man then allegedly searched through the 44-year-old's pockets before fleeing in a vehicle.

The 44-year-old sustained significant head injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

Following investigations by Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, a 20-year-old Lismore man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, 7 January.
