Man Charged for Impersonating Police in Surry Hills

A man has been charged with impersonating a police officer in Surry Hills earlier today.

Police will allege about 11.45am (Friday 13 February 2026), a 58-year-old woman was walking in the alleyway of Arnold Place, Surry Hills, when a man she did not know stopped her and asked her to go with him.

The woman attempted to get away from the man and entered a shopping centre on Oxford Street and walked towards Brisbane Street, when she realised the man was still following her.

As she was concerned for her welfare, she sought refuge in a garage on Oxford Street, where police were called. A colleague of the woman came to her assistance and the man told him he was a police officer.

Officers attached to Surry Hills Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries into the incident and arrested the man.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with three offences - stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, impersonate police officer and possess prescribed restricted substance.

The man was refused bail to appear in Bail Division - Court 7 tomorrow (Saturday 14 February 2026).
