Man Charged for Intimidation in Haymarket

A man will face court charged over alleged intimidating behaviour in Sydney this morning.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were called to a licensed business on Pitt Street, Haymarket, about 1.15am (Saturday 10 January 2026), following reports a man had been allegedly verbally intimidated.

Police have been told a 19-year-old man felt fearful after being approached by another man and allegedly subjected to hate speech.

Security and management at the venue were alerted and the man was removed.

About 8am, detectives attached to Bankstown Police Area Command arrested a 23-year-old man at Bankstown Police Station.

He has been charged with publicly incite hatred on grounds of race causing fear.

He was refused bail and will appear before Bail Division Court 7 tomorrow (Sunday 11 January 2026).
