Man Charged for Multiple Break-Ins in Western Region

A man will face court today charged with multiple property and traffic-related offences in the state's north.

Officers attached to New England Police District were conducting inquiries into a number of break-ins in the New England region on Sunday (10 September 2023) night, when they sighted a Ford Mustang on Tycannah Street, Moree, about 5.45am yesterday (Monday 11 September 2023),

Checks revealed the vehicle had reportedly been stolen during a break-in at Narrabri and when the Mustang stopped, police arrested the driver, a 19-year-old man, following a struggle.

During a search of the vehicle, police located and seized jewellery, and a bag of white substance believed to be methylamphetamine.

The 19-year-old man was taken to Moree Police Station and charged with:

  • aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-people there (x3)
  • take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (x2)
  • dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception (x2)
  • drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester
  • hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and,
  • possess prohibited drug.

The Tamworth man was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court today (Tuesday 12 September 2023).
