Man Charged for Offensive Conduct in Bondi Junction

A man will face court today charged after allegedly carrying a vest covered in duct tape in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs overnight.

About 10.10pm (Sunday 11 January 2026), police were called to Oxford Street, Bondi, following reports of suspicious behaviour.

Officers attached to Operation Shelter attended and spoke to a 33-year-old Victorian man allegedly wearing a vest covered in duct taped objects.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

A search of the man's vehicle was conducted with police locating and seizing a secondary taped vest, a face mask and a tin believed to contain prohibited drugs.

Both vests were examined by officers attached to Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and deemed safe.

He was charged with give false information person/property in danger, possess prohibited drug and behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 7 today (Monday 12 January 2026).
