Man charged for threatening Melbourne tram passengers

Melbourne Embona detectives have charged a man after he allegedly threatened passengers on a tram with a knife in Melbourne's CBD this morning.

It is alleged he entered a business on Collins Street holding a weapon and stole items.

He allegedly fled the scene and boarded a nearby tram where he threatened passengers.

A woman received minor injuries during the incident.

Police used a taser to safely take the man into custody.

The 57-year-old man, of no fixed place of address, has been charged with armed robbery, false imprisonment, threats to kill and assault.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court tonight.
