Man Charged in $100K Theft at Yamba

A man will face court today, charged over the alleged theft of $100k worth of property on the state's north coast.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District commenced an investigation following reports property, including two boats, two motors and a box trailer, were allegedly stolen from properties in Chatsworth and Yamba earlier this year, with the most recent incident occurring on Monday 28 April 2025.

Following inquiries, about 1pm on Thursday (1 May 2025), police observed a Ford sedan on Treelands Drive, Yamba, with allegedly stolen number plates.

Police spoke with the driver and passenger of the vehicle, before the passenger – a 48-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Yamba Police Station.

At the same time, police searched a property on Jack Bulbin Road, Tullmorgan, where they located and seized the allegedly stolen items.

A replica firearm was also located and seized by police.

The 48-year-old man was later taken to Grafton Police Station, following medical treatment, where he was charged with six counts of goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), three counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, larceny, custody of knife in public place and possess unregistered firearm – prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court today (Friday 2 May 2025).
