Man Charged in Double Fatal Camden South Crash

A man has been charged after a critical incident was declared when two people died following a crash in Camden South yesterday.

About 10.20am (Saturday 14 February 2026), emergency services were called to a service station on King Georges Road, South Hurstville, following reports of a vehicle theft.

Officers attached to St George Police Area Command were told a 25-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by an unknown man before he stole the 25-year-old man's red sedan and left the scene.

A short time later, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command located the vehicle travelling on King Georges Road, Beverly Hills.

When it allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

With assistance from PolAir and multiple police commands, the pursuit continued along the M5 Motorway, before it was terminated in the Bankstown area.

PolAir continued to track the vehicle before the sedan crashed into an Alfa Romeo sedan on the Old Hume Highway, Camden South, about 11.10am.

The two occupants of the Alfa Romeo were treated by NSW Police and Ambulance paramedics, but both died at the scene.

They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the sedan, a 31-year-old man, allegedly ran from the scene and was arrested on Nepean Avenue, Camden.

He was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with eleven offences

  • Dangerous driving occasion death-drive manner dangerous (two counts)
  • Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death - escaping pursuit (two counts)
  • Drive recklessly / furiously or speed / manner dangerous
  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously,
  • Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death,
  • Negligent driving (occasioning death)
  • Unlicenced for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR
  • Not stop at stop line at red light
  • Assault with intent to take / drive motor vehicle

He was refused bail and will appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Sunday 15 February 2026).

A Critical Incident Team from Burwood Police Area Command will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents, supported by the St George Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
