Man Charged in Stabbing of Delivery Rider

A man has been charged following an alleged serious assault in Sydney's inner suburbs.

About 9.15pm on Monday 18 August 2025, emergency services were called to Mary Ann Street, Ultimo, following reports a delivery rider had been stabbed.

On arrival, police were told the rider – a 24-year-old man – had allegedly been pushed from his bike to the ground by an unknown man, before he was stabbed more than a dozen times with a screwdriver.

The unidentified man walked away from the scene.

The 24-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. He remains in hospital.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 1.55pm yesterday (Thursday 21 August 2025), police arrested a 31-year-old man on Pyrmont Street, Camperdown, before executing a search warrant at a unit where a screwdriver was seized for forensic examination.

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division – Court 7 today (Friday 22 August 2025).
