Man Charged in Villawood Car Theft Chase

Police have charged a man over an alleged vehicle theft and pursuit in Sydney's south west.

Just after 8.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 31 March 2026), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling on Derribong Street Villawood, when they located a grey BMW sedan.

Checks revealed the vehicle was stolen from Carlingford, about 7.30pm on the same day.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, with the assistance from Cumberland Police Area Command.

The pursuit continued through to Gundaroo Street, Villawood, where the sedan came to stop after it collided with a marked police vehicle.

The sedan was seized for a forensic examination and there were no injuries reported.

The driver of sedan – a 38-year-old man – was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, licence expired within the last 2 years, take and driver conveyance without consent of owner, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 1 April 2026).
