An Iranian national appeared before the NSW Bail Division Court on Saturday (19 September, 2026) charged for allegedly assaulting another detainee at Villawood Immigration Detention Centre.
Police allege the man, 32, used an improvised weapon to wound a second man, 46, on Friday (18 September, 2026).
It's alleged the 32-year-old stabbed the other man in his arm and torso with a sharpened metal piece.
The weapon was seized by Australian Border Force officers and later recovered by the AFP.
The man was charged at Bankstown Police Station with one count of reckless wounding, contrary to section 35(4) of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).
He faces a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment if convicted.
The man was refused bail and remanded into custody. He is next scheduled to appear before Bankstown Local Court on 1 October, 2026.
The alleged victim was admitted to hospital for medical treatment. Investigations are ongoing.
