Man Charged in Wagga Wagga Wounding Incident

A man has faced court following an alleged assault in the state's Riverina yesterday.

About 8:30pm (Wednesday 24 June 2026) officers attached to Riverina Police District were called to Tongaboo Lane, Wagga Wagga following reports of an assault.

Police were told that a man was acting suspiciously at the rear of a property in Tongaboo Lane. The 45-year-old owner of the property confronted a 31-year-old man and was allegedly threatened with a knife before being assaulted.

Members of the public who were in the vicinity came to the aid of the man and contacted emergency services.

The 31-year-old man left the scene prior to police arrival but was located a short time later in Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga with minor injuries.

Both men were taken to Wagga Base Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A dog belonging to the older man was also injured.

The 31-year-old man was released from Wagga Base Hospital at 1:45am and was taken to Wagga Police Station where he was charged with:

  • reckless wounding
  • affray
  • armed with intent to commit indictable offence

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 5 today, Thursday 25 June 2026
