Man charged over alleged stabbing in Tamworth

A man will face court today over the alleged stabbing of another man in the state's north-east yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Tuesday 25 December 2018), police were called to a group home on Johnston Street, North Tamworth, following reports a man had been stabbed.

Police have been told two men – aged 45 and 48 - were involved in an altercation, before the younger man allegedly stabbed the older man in the leg and fled the scene.

The 48-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Tamworth Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Oxley Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, about 8pm yesterday (Tuesday 25 December 2018), the 45-year-old man attended Tamworth Police Station where he was arrested and charged with wound to intent, common assault and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 26 December 2018).

The men were known to each other.
