Man charged over animal cruelty, NSW

A man has been charged over alleged animal cruelty in Sydney's south-west.

About 10am today (Thursday 24 January 2019), a 19-year-old man was at a home on Richard Crescent, Cecil Hills, when it is alleged he injured three dogs, including a German Shepherd and two Fox Terriers.

Police allege he struck the dogs with a shovel.

When other residents of the home arrived, an argument ensued when it was discovered the dogs were injured.

During the argument the man allegedly threatened his 39-year-old mother with the shovel.

Police from Liverpool City Police District were called and attended the scene.

The dogs were taken to a vet, however the German Shepherd died as a result of serious injuries.

The 19-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with three counts of torture, beat and cause death of animal, as well as common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court tomorrow (Friday 25 January 2019).
