Man charged over animal cruelty, NSW

A man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating his to dog to death on the North Coast, NSW Police say.

This morning (Tuesday 28 November 2017), police received information that a 51-year-old man had killed his dog at Brunswick Heads.

Police spoke to the man at a community centre before he led officers to the location where he had buried the dog, which was then exhumed by council rangers.

It is alleged the man had tied the dog to a tree and beat it over the head.

The man was then taken to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged with aggravated cruelty upon an animal.

He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Tuesday 28 November 2017).

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
